Mukul Roy still in BJP: Bengal assembly speaker rules on defection charge

Mukul Roy, who is a founder member of the TMC, was a national vice-president in the BJP which he joined in 2017 following differences with chief minister Mamata Banerjee. His son, Subhranshu, also joined the saffron camp but returned to the TMC with his father in June last year.

Top TMC leaders said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee asked four of her loyalists and Abhishek Banerjee to attend an emergency meeting at her residence on Saturday afternoon although Bengal will witness polls at four important civic bodies during the day.

Mamata Banrejee’s TMC didn’t comment on Bengal assembly speaker’s ruling and demanded Roy’s interrogation by CBI in the Saradha and Narada case. The Bengal BJP called the speaker’s decision a farce.

West Bengal reports 1,345 new Covid-19 cases, 31 more deaths

Bengal currently has 19,276 active cases, 937 less than Friday's count. The state's fatality rate stood at 1.04 per cent and the positivity rate at 3.66 per cent on Saturday.
