Odisha Election 2024 Highlights: Voting was completed in multiple seats in Odisha amid the ongoing state assembly elections 2024 today. Notably, today is also the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024 across multiple states and union territories. Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are being held simultaneously in Odisha. Voting started at 7 am in Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri Lok Sabha seats along with 42 assembly segments that make up these Lok Sabha constituencies. In the third round of the simultaneous elections in the state, over than 94.48 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in 10,581 polling booths across the 42 seats. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) NB Dhal said that adequate arrangements for voters' convenience have been made in all booths.

Key candidates who remain in fray during the third phase of the assembly polls in Odisha are Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJD organisational secretary and MLA Pranab Prakash Das and BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra. Four Odisha ministers -- Prafulla Mallick, RP Swain, Ashok Panda and Basanti Hembram -- are also in the fray.

"People realised voting for INDIA bloc is futile": PM Modi thanks voters after phase 6

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his gratitude to voters participating in the penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections and claimed that people have released that voting for the opposition INDIA bloc in the ongoing elections is "futile" because there is no chance of its coming to power.

"I thank all those who have voted in the penultimate phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. NDA's numbers are looking better and better. People have realised that since INDI Alliance is coming nowhere close to power, voting for it is futile," PM Modi posted on X.

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections for 58 parliamentary constituencies saw a cumulative voter turnout of 59.23 per cent, as per the data shared by the Election Commission on Saturday.

NRI travels from Dubai to cast vote in Odisha polls

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) has travelled thousands of miles from Dubai to cast his vote in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Odisha on Saturday.

Priyadarshee Panigrahi, the son of former parliamentarian and Odisha minister Sriballav Panigrahi, has been staying in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates since 2008.

He undertook a 20-hour journey from Dubai to Kolkata via flight and then by train to Jharsuguda and finally by road to Sambalpur to reach his polling station at 11.30 am to exercise his franchise.

"I have a special connection with Sambalpur. I grew up here and my late father represented Sambalpur twice in 1971 and 1974 in the Odisha Assembly. So, coming here and voting was also my way of paying homage to my motherland and to my late father.

Odisha logs around 60 pc voter turnout till 5 pm in 6 LS seats, 42 assembly segments

Odisha recorded 59.60 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm in the six Lok Sabha constituencies and 42 assembly segments on Saturday, officials said.

Voting was held in Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri parliamentary constituencies along with 42 assembly segments within the jurisdiction of these Lok Sabha seats.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik walked to the Aerodrome Upper Primary School near his residence here to cast his vote. "We will form a stable government in the state," he told reporters.

Odisha's chief electoral officer N B Dhal said voting was peaceful so far in the 10,581 polling stations, barring some reports of EVM glitches.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani has urged people to vote for the BJP to liberate Odisha's future from BJD's "captivity".

Speaking at an election rally in Kujang within Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha constituency on Saturday, Irani said, "There's talk that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik lacks the freedom to express himself and meet others independently. She declared that if voted to power, the BJP would appoint an Odia CM. "How long will Odisha endure all this?" she questioned.

Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, who is seeking a record ninth term in Parliament, visited polling booths in Sultanpur from where she is in the fray in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections being held on Saturday.

Maneka Gandhi, who is a sitting BJP MP from the seat, urged people to vote in large numbers. She said results on June 4 will be in favour of BJP.

The MP said there were minor issues at two-three places in EVMs. "A few polling officers are not well-trained, and some of our agents are unaware. It's a hit-and-miss process," Maneka Gandhi said answering a query.

"I not a fortune teller. All I can tell is the results that will be coming on June 4 will be in favour of BJP," she said answering another query.
