Uttarakhand tunnel collapse Updates: Day 9 of the rescue operations commenced on Monday after a portion of the Silkyara Bend - Barkot tunnel, under construction, collapsed in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, leading to dozens of workers being trapped in the rubble.
As many as 41 workers continue to remain trapped after a section of a tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi collapsed, leading to a major health and safety emergency. Today, November 20, is the ninth day of the rescue operations, while the rescue teams are interacting with the trapped workers through the supply tunnel drilled into the rubble.
The vertical drilling was halted on the evening of November 19 after hitting a snag, to ensure the safety of the workers trapped inside. It is expected that the workers will be rescued in the next 4-5 days, seeing the progress of the vertical drilling.
Union Minister of Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari reached the site of the collapse and ensured that the Centre will offer its full assistance to rescue those who are trapped in the next couple of days. The minister also said that a thorough inquiry will take place once the rescue operations are complete.

Uttarakhand Congress criticised the state government on Monday for the delay in rescuing the 41 workers trapped in the Uttarkashi tunnel. The have urged for a CBI investigation supervised by the high court into the incident.
Yashpal Arya, leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader, who visited the tunnel site on Monday, said, “The accountability of the government and officials should be fixed. Action should be taken against the erring officials. A CBI inquiry under the supervision of the court should be instituted if the government has nothing to hide”, he said

Uttarakhand tunnel collapse LIVE: The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Director Anshu Manish Khalkho, addressing the media on Tuesday, mentioned that additional machinery is en route to the tunnel site to aid in the rescue operation. He added that DRDO has dispatched two robots.
“DRDO has sent 2 robots weighing 20 kg and 50 kg respectively. The robots move on the ground and the land is working like sand, we are apprehending whether or not would the robots be able to move there... All machinery is coming, they are mobilised and will be here within a day or two... BRO is constructing roads wherever necessary on this end and the Barkot end. Roads are ready on both sides, now we are waiting for the machinery. The machines are very heavy, they cannot be airlifted,” he said.
