DC Squad IPL 2024

DC Squad: Rishabh Pant is back in IPL and will lead the Delhi Capitals once again after recovering from the injuries he sustained during a horrific car accident in December 2022. DC missed him dearly in the last season and finished in the ninth spot on the points table. Meanwhile, they have made some smart signings in the IPL auction to strengthen their lineup.

Delhi Capitals, earlier known as Delhi Daredevils, have done considerably well in the IPL since 2008 but their trophy cabinet has been empty. In the first two seasons, they lost in the semifinals, and had made it to the playoffs in 2012 and 2019. In 2020, DC entered the finals where they lost to Mumbai Indians, and topped the league stage in 2021, only to lose both their playoff matches.

DC's best seasons have to be 2012 and 2021. In 2012, they won 11 of their 16 league matches and in 2021, DC won 10 out of 14 matches. In 2012, Virender Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene and Kevin Pietersen scored more than 300 runs, while the DC bowlers Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav took 44 wickets between them. In the highest wicket-takers list in 2021, Avesh Khan finished second with 24 scalps. Then there have been seasons like 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2018 where they finished last.

DC team management's strategy regarding player retention has hurt them over the years. Gautam Gambhir was released in 2010, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two titles. Then later they have let go of players such as AB de Villiers, Andre Russell, more recently Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan. Moreover, DC never made a sincere attempt to rope in Virat Kohli, a consistent performer in the IPL playing for the RCB franchise since 2008.

From 2013 to 2018, DC struggled in the league and failed to find a key to end their troubles. After making the finals in 2020 and the playoffs in 2021, they again crashed to the pits and finished near the bottom of the table.

Delhi Capitals full squad: Rishabh Pant (c), Pravin Dubey, David Warner, Vicky Ostwal, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, Abishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Lalit Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Mukesh Kumar, Tristan Stubbs, Ricky Bhui, Kumar Kushagra, Rasikh Dar, Jhye Richardson, Sumit Kumar, Shai Hope, Swastik Chhikara.
