NIRF 2023: Panjab University slips by three spots to rank 44

Last year, Panjab University was ranked 41, also a drop from the 38th spot in the 2021 rankings; in the very first NIRF rankings released in 2016, the university was ranked 12

Less CUET centres in J&K: Testing agency’s centre allocation in Punjab irks Ramban candidates

Candidates from Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir are distressed as the National Testing Agency (NTA) has directed them to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) on June 8 at Jalandhar in Punjab and other cities outside J&K. Last month, the CUET exams of J&K candidates were postponed following assurances by the lieutenant governor that they will be conducted within the union territory. Some candidates have appealed to the LG to take up their matter with the Centre on priority. The J&K Congress has criticized the CUET pattern and demanded that NTA allot centres to J&K students within their own districts or adjoining districts.

Former BPCL official issued 7 e-challans for traffic violations he didn’t commit

A former executive director at BPCL was shocked to find out that someone had faked his car's registration number and used it on an identical car to receive seven e-challans. Ravi Pratap Suryanath Singh found out about the fake e-challans while on a work-related trip in Bhubaneshwar. When he rang up his son to ask if he had taken the car out, he replied in the negative. Singh is worried that if the car was misused, he would be held responsible. The Nhava Sheva police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused.

Proposed to be built at a cost of ?2003 crore, the total residential and commercial population of the project is 6,948 individuals. The project will also create parking space for a total of 1,483 vehicles, both four and two-wheelers. Around 51 acres of the 55-acre plot will be developed.

A newly-formed Private Unaided Schools' Association in Mansa, India, proposed banning the admission of children whose parents are charged with drug peddling. The association claims it has around 100 affiliated schools as members. However, the decision was later reviewed following intervention by local district authorities. The association said it wanted to build moral pressure on parents involved in drug dealing, which is a major problem in Punjab.

Two days after FIR, Amruta Fadnavis assured bookie Anil Jaisinghani of help: Chargesheet

Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra's deputy chief minister, had promised a bookie she would speak to her husband to help him out if the cases registered against him were false, according to a police chargesheet. The document, submitted before the sessions court on May 18, claims Fadnavis blocked the bookie's daughter after she threatened to release recordings of the two women. The bookie was arrested on bribery and blackmail charges, alongside his daughter and cousin, after Fadnavis filed a complaint against them.
